Our campaigns
Campaigning has great potential to help us in our vision that together we will beat cancer. From smokefree workplaces to improved cancer screening programmes we campaign on a wide range of cancer related issues.
Cancer is a political issue, and political action really does save lives.
Below is a list of some of our key past and present campaigns. Join us today!
Our Current Campaigns
TAKE ACTION NOW! 50,000 of you took action to put tobacco Out of Sight and Out of Mind. Our campaign was incredibly successful leading to new laws to remove tobacco displays and cigarette vending machines. But we're concerned that these amazing new laws may not be implemented. Please take a moment to email your MP and protect our children from the dangers of tobacco.
In the run up to the 2010 general election our supporters worked hard to ensure that cancer was a priority for all Parliamentary Candidates. 4,612 people emailed their candidates to ask them to sign up to our 5 asks. An amazing 1,034 candidates took the pledge and 158 of them are now sitting MPs! This is fantastic news and will place us in a much stronger position when making cancer asks in the future. To all of you who took part, thank you!
Our Previous Campaigns
Using a sunbed before the age of 35 increases the risk of cancer by 75 per cent, so we campaigned to protect vulnerable sunbed users from this risk. We are delighted to confirm that the Sunbed Bill has now become law. The Sunbeds Act (as it will now be known) will restrict the use of sunbeds to over 18s in England and Wales (Scotland already has this legislation), and a generation of our children will be protected from the damage they can cause. A huge thank you goes out to all those who emailed their MPs on this issue.
Our Cancer 2020 campaign called on politicians in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to plan for the cancer challenges ahead.
The government in England committed to a new Cancer Reform Strategy in November 2006, with Scotland agreeing to update their Cancer in Scotland plan in February 2007. In 2008 Wales announced a renewed Designed to Tackle Cancer strategy. We're working with politicians in Northern Ireland to ensure they too plan for the future of cancer.
Our Screening Matters campaign calls on politicians to get more people into cancer screening programmes across the UK and to make sure the programmes are as good as they can be.
