Tackle cancer inequalities

Tackle rosetteConsiderable inequalities in cancer incidence and outcomes still exist between different social groups in Northern Ireland. These complex and often poorly understood differences require concerted action to achieve equal outcomes for patients. In particular, action is needed to improve cancer outcomes for people over 75, in line with Northern European countries and the US.

We want the next Assembly to:

  • Review data collection and encourage dissemination to inform research into inequalities and help tailor local services
  • Commission more high-quality research into how to reduce cancer inequalities
  • Support HSC to deliver high-quality support and awareness campaigns for diverse groups, ensuring appropriate patient information is provided according to cultural or social needs
