Commit to Beat Cancer - Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions about the Commit to Beat Cancer campaign in Northern Ireland.
We are calling on politicians to join us in helping to make cancer outcomes in Northern Ireland among the best in Europe in the next 10 years. The five year survival rates in Northern Ireland still lag behind the best countries in Europe (such as Sweden, Norway and Finland).
We want to see concerted action from next Government in the following key areas:
- Provide world class cancer treatments
- Prevent more cancers
- Detect cancer earlier
- Tackle cancer inequalities
- Protect Northern Ireland’s research base
We need you to join us in this vision too. We’re asking our supporters to shout out about cancer in the run up to the next Northern Ireland Assembly election. We need you to email the assembly candidates in your local area asking them to sign our cancer commitment.
We are asking them to sign up to a commitment to our five campaign goals. If they make this commitment we know that if they are elected, we can call on them to help us beat cancer in the future. By doing this we hope to raise awareness of Cancer Research UK and build support for our vision that together we will beat cancer. This will help us to reach our ambitious goal of making cancer outcomes in Northern Ireland among the best in Europe in the next ten years.
Email your local assembly candidates and encourage them to sign up to the cancer commitment online. Be sure to personalise your letter when you fill in your details – this is a simple way to give your email even more impact. If you would like to get more involved, why not become a Cancer Campaigns Ambassador and be the voice against cancer in your local area? Click here to find out about the Ambassador programme.
The more candidates who commit to beating cancer, the more impact we can have. If we can show there is strong and widespread support for keeping cancer on the agenda in the future, we will be able to keep achieving the fantastic campaign successes we’ve had in the past. We need your help to show politicians that cancer is an election issue.
