Prevent more cancers
Many cases of cancer could be prevented by people making healthy choices in their daily lives.
We can reduce our risk of cancer by not smoking, moderating how much alcohol we drink, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a balanced diet, keeping active and avoiding excessive exposure to UV light.
We think it’s important to balance personal responsibility with Government action to help sustain healthy lifestyle choices.
We want the Government to:
- Support a comprehensive tobacco control strategy tackling youth smoking, smuggling, inequalities and support for those wanting to quit, together with proper regulation for the tobacco industry and their products.
- Develop a wide-ranging national obesity prevention strategy.
- Protect children from the risks of sunbed use by prohibiting unstaffed salons, raising the age of use to 18, and ensuring that evidence-based health information is available in every salon.
- Tackle the long-term health impacts of alcohol through a review of alcohol pricing and promotion.
