Become an Ambassador - video transcript

Watch Lizzy explain more about the Ambassador programme

Lizzy Allen, Campaigning Officer: Our Ambassador programme is all about our highly passionate supporters, staff and scientists coming together to help create the right political environment to beat cancer.

They’re the local voices that bring our campaigns alive in communities all around the UK and due to their hard work, Cancer Research UK is better able to influence decision makers, engage the local media in our campaigns and ultimately, save lives.

The most important thing we look for in an Ambassador is motivation to use their skills and experience to help influence policy makers and keep cancer high on the political agenda.

So, what do Ambassadors do as part of the programme? They influence their local MP or parliamentary representative, either through letter writing or meeting with them face to face to persuade them to get behind our campaigns. They also write to their local or regional newspapers to secure coverage and interviews. They can also put up campaign posters, collect petition signatures or in the run up to an election, attend a hustings event to quiz candidates on their intentions, if elected.

A fantastic thing to see is our Ambassadors using their local knowledge and community connections to proactively promote our campaigns in their local area. And of course the highlight of being a Cancer Campaigns Ambassador is the opportunity to lobby your MP or parliamentary representatives either in Westminster or in the devolved parliament and assemblies.

This is your chance to make a really big impact with Cancer Campaigns Ambassadors from all over the country.
